Crowns
Gold Crowns again for durability, are difficult to beat. Of all types of crowns, this requires the removal of the least amount of tooth structure. The advantage is in golds ability to be cast in extreme detail. It tends to seal the smallest voids and spaces better than any other material. On very short posterior teeth this may be your only option without periodontal surgery. Unfortunately, gold crowns still need to be sent to the lab for fabrication, (CEREC fabricates only porcelain resotorations) therefore a second appointment will still be needed for the cementation of the crown.

Porcelain fused to metal crowns PFM's (as we call them) are a combination of a cast/gold crown and a porcelain crown.. They can be nearly as esthetic as an all porcelain crown, and also have the underlying strength/substructure of a gold crown. They are the most widely used restoration for restoring an implant. Again, like all porcelain crowns, PFM's require more removal of tooth structure
